The main stringed instrument in Hindustani music is the sitar .The sitar widely used in classical music as well as simple music .The musical instrument is instrument of India origin and became popular after coming to this country .The shape of the sitar similar to the Persian musical instrument called oud.The sitar was invented by Ameer Khushru.The instrument is mainly used in the Indian subcontinent itself .Pandit Ravi Shankar is an accomplished sitar player .In addition to that Usthad wiliyat Khan ,Anushka Shankar are an accomplished sitar players .Dr .Nirmala Rudrigo ,Pradeep Rathnayake are zn accomplished sitar players in Sri Lanka .There are many others .
